Consistency
What is the one thing that all successful people have in common - not just some of the time but all of the time?
So I have tried to be consistent this week, and then build on that, constantly improve on that day to day and week to week.
I am glad I had the discipline to run today.
I ran two laps in Lake Park. I left just after 3pm. Jan called just as I was putting on my running shoes. He wants to play Counterstrike, so I agreed to meet him after dinner. On Sundays the Park is just buzzing with people. It has the feeling that a movie or football game has just finished, because people swarm everywhere - on every device imaginable. There is a fun atmosphere, a playful vibe. I saw a birl on a bicycle towing two bladers. Two of them were on the grass a few minutes later. You are basically guaranteed of seeing some carnage on the tracks around the path on a Sunday. The most lethal are 4 foot high human projectiles rollerblading backwards and usually laughing seconds before impact. This where those hours of Counterstrike and Need for Speed pay off handsomely.
I also saw a lady cycle by who had tied a leash to her beautiful golden Labrador, and then attached that to the silver bike stand of her bike. That's fine if she can ride at a fairly even pace, say, on a country road. But I am glad I am not that poor puppy. Not even I could cycle smoothly in this chaos. And there are a few wicked little bridges. Imagine having a short rope attached to your neck, and that's attached to a bicycle, and if you get too close you get a wheel or foot in your face, too far and you get whipped or dragged back into line...and if you do everything right you still have to rely on the cyclist going at an even pace through hordes of people. Never mind the oncoming bladers and other traffic that have to see the leash and you and avoid both. These might be mobile family units (the most troublesome), miniature cars and motorcycles, motorised scooters, tandems, quads... Running through all this is quite fun, especially if you like playing Dodge 'Em.
I started off feeling a bit uncomfortable, but well into the run, a guy wearing a red shirt started tailing me and I found myself in a good rhythm.
It was actually quite warm today and I had to peel off my tracksuit, wrap it around my waist and roll up my shirt sleeves. After about 50 minutes I left the track to do some pullups and bicycle-situps. Took it easy on the way home.
I feel like pasta for dinner.
