Children
This is a marathon in Dallas. I have only done 2 marathons. In the first I think there were 13 000 people and in the second 24 000 people. If you have never run with so many people before let me explain what it feels like. It doesn't feel like running. It feels like floating. It feels like you don't really need any energy (until much later in the race). A lot of people strike up conversations, and alliances, with each other. It's a simple but powerful experience.
Having run 42.2km I can begin to appreciate how insane the Comrades is, where they run something like 90km. But part of the enjoyment of the marathon is the energy that so many people running gives off. There is something childishly gleeful in just wanting to run far. I think because there is nothing complicated about it, it actually speaks to your inner child.
It's simply, 'Hey, let's run.' I am sold on that, but I am beginning to consider the time. I'd like to narrow the gap closer and closer to 3 hours.
Is it too early to say I would dearly, dearly love to go under 3 hours, even if by a single second!
