NVDL: There are a lot of drivers out there who seem to want to prove that they are the masters of the road, and try to sort of bully their way past riders. This sort of aggression is no different to pointing a loaded gun at someone.
The death of another Cape Town cyclist in a hit-and-run accident early on Saturday has prompted an urgent call for the government to speed up the adoption of its Cycling Protection Charter.
Creslin Attwood, 54, from Southfield, was killed while cycling down Main Road in Glencairn.
Cape Medical Response's Colette Botha said: "We got the call-out early yesterday. But when we got to the scene he was already dead."
'I heard that the same driver nearly took out more cyclists' Cycling organisations and safety campaigners say the government needs to act urgently in toughening up laws dealing with hit-and-run drivers who kill cyclists and pedestrians. One proposal is that hit-and-run drivers get a mandatory three-year jail sentence.
