SHOOT: Twitter has come of age. It was no fun when no one was on it, now everyone is on it and everyone is in on it.
In news that will surprise no one, Oprah's appearance on Twitter last week gave the micro-blogging site a nice little boost in traffic. The number of U.S. visitors to Twitter increased 24 percent on April 17, when Oprah first Tweeted live on her show. Compared to the previous Friday, traffic was up 43 percent, according to data from Hitwise.
On April 17, approximately 37 percent of visits to Twitter.com were from new users, as opposed to returning. In March, Twitter's average new user visits were about 5 percent.
