#Swine Flu toll at 159, 2500 infected, 8 countries confirm A/H1N1

SHOOT: In the USA 60 people across 6 states have been infected. The latest confirmed cases are in Germany, with suspected cases arising in Brazil. There is some confusion as to why the WHO have not declared this a PHASE 5 emergency.

In total,159 people have died, all of them in Mexico, the country at the centre of the outbreak.

Of those, 26 were found to have been affected by the A/H1N1 virus and seven of those "corresponded beyond any doubt to deaths caused by the new virus", said Mexico's health minister Jose Angel Cordova.

More than 60 people across six states in the US have now been confirmed with swine flu - although no one has died.

German authorities have confirmed three cases of swine flu - two women aged 22 and 37 and a man in his 30s.

New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Israel, Brazil, Colombia and France are all in the process of containing confirmed or suspected cases.
