Honda Begins Construction of Lithium-Ion Battery Plant

clipped from www.goodcleantech.com Blue Energy Co., the joint Honda-GS Yuasa venture for building lithium-ion batteries for hybrid vehicles, held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of its Osadano Plant in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto. The new plant is scheduled to begin battery production sometime around the fall of 2010. In the meantime, none of Honda's current hybrids--including the new 2010 Insight--uses lithium ion batteries, with the exception of the extremely-limited production Honda FCX Clarity (which is actually a fuel cell vehicle, first and foremost). But many lithium-ion-powered concept vehicles have hit the circuit recently, so we expect to see more production cars with lithium ion batteries soon.
