NVDL: Racism has hurt all South Africans, but we need to start moving forward earnestly, focussing on something else, something constructive, something new. Maybe Heritage Day, maybe our own families, maybe just our own egotism. Let's just get out of this racism rut. Maybe moving out to the country for the odd weekend. Just something new.
Donwald Pressly wrote an excellent article - Media bosses sick of Bullard's rants? Let them eat cake - earlier in the year. The Racism Card is being used more and more, and it is up to all of us to be not only discerning, but to also establish boundaries and to say, "Hey, this is nonsense. Quit using the word racism and start using some logic." The racism card can be a license for a lot of undue enrichment and name smearing.
Donwald Pressly: Which brings me to the matter of cake. The Freedom Front Plus student organisation at the University of Pretoria held an affirmative action cake sale on the campus last week. Cake prices were determined by the skin colour: white, coloured and Indian students had to pay significantly more for cake than black students, to demonstrate the unfairness of affirmative action. Campus authorities stopped the cake sale.
It just proves that you may have the cake but you may not be able to eat it. And in South Africa, if you are of a particular skin colour, you may have to eat your words. You will probably also not get any cake.
