Hurricane Ike has weakened overnight - Now Cat 3, Hanna strengthening, moving faster [Hurricane Graphic]

Hurricane Ike is still likely to threaten Florida as a powerful category 3 Hurricane. Ike is gusting at 125mph - 205 KM/HR (down from 135mph not long ago), moving due west to a position south of the Keys at 15mph. Ike is likely to weaken still further as the storm enters an area once occupied by Hanna.

Hanna meanwhile is drawing herself alongside the east coast of Florida, moving north rapidly - at 20mph - almost level with Miami currently, and heading towards North Carolina. Expect 4-6 inches in the Carolinas and Virginia - in isolated cases 10 inches are possible.

From Advisory 34:

VERY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BE SPREADING NORTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE MID ATLANTIC...SOUTHERN NEW YORK...AND INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND LATE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY.

Storm surge from Hanna is likely to be between 3 and 5 feet. Hanna is forecast to strengthen, but only slightly.
