Now the CDC has further analyzed those numbers to find the
fatal and incurable virus largely infects men who have sex with
men, or MSM -- a group that includes gays, bisexuals and men
who may have the occasional sexual encounter with other men.

"The male-to-male sexual contact transmission category
represented 72 percent of new infections among males, including
81 percent of new infections among whites, 63 percent among
blacks, and 72 percent among Hispanics," the report said.

Of the new infections in 2006, more than half were among
gay and bisexual men, the CDC found. Of these, 46 percent of
new infections were among whites, 35 percent among blacks and
19 percent in Hispanics.

Is it fair to say that the figures for any survey etc are based on the results of those people who actually get tested - and because of better awareness in the gay community, there is less of a stigma associated with HIV / AIDS so it is more acceptable and actually a GIVEN that gay men get tested regularly?

'Straight' men assume that they can't or won't catch HIV from a woman so they don't bother getting tested unless they are perhaps suffering from a more obvious sti with physical symptoms or perhaps if they go to donate blood.

If its MOSTLY M2M infection, then how and why are there still so many HIV positive women...particularly in Africa where homosexuality is culturally frowned upon in almost every single country on the continent - who is infecting them and how did THEY get it intercourse?
