When leaving Port Elizabeth you climb over an escarpment of mountains, and on the one side is forest and lush vegetation, once on the other side, the plateau, it is suddenly arid, as though the mountains hold all the raincloud out of the interior. The Garden Route (basically South Africa's East Coast) is really lush, but all the rain gets caught along the coasts and mountains, and very little sweeps over the arid plains of the interior. Posted by Hello
