SHOOT: What I find fascinating about this article is that not once do they mention fuel efficiency, which I'd say ought to be the number 1 priority. I have no doubt that the Volkswagen is efficient, I seem to remember reading that they get 4.9litres per 100km which is close to the Toyota Prius at 4.5litres.
While I am not advocating that fuel efficiency be touted as a cure-all, it's an important point of departure (and should be for all manufacturers - Chrysler are you listening) and the fact that efficiency is so understated here shows that automakers and those that write about them (and the banks that finance them) still have a lot to learn.
