Cameron van der Burgh has the smile of a world record-holder! Well, he should after adding the world long course 50m breaststroke world best to his current status as the world’s fastest man ever in the short course 50m and 100m! His semi-final time of 27.06 secs on the fifth night of action at the Telkom SA National Aquatics Championships at the Kings Park Aquatics Centre in Durban Saturday, eclipsed Oleg Lisoger’s previous world best of 27.18.
In the 200m individual medley final, Darian Townsend equalled his semi- final world championship qualifying time of 1:58.33, with second-placed Sebastien Rousseau (2:00.01) also pencilling his place on the national selectors’ short-list for Rome.
Roland Schoeman (23.15) and Graeme Moore (23.86) posted world championship qualifying times in the 50m butterfly.
Somerset West-based Jessica Pengelly regained her 200m individual medley national record in posting 2:14.00 |
