Shoot on shoot

Shoot on shoot - a declaration of intent, a manifesto, a daily dose of integrity in this world that is so full of greed, so lacking in honorability, accountability and taking responsibility. Shoot's audience - that's you - is encouraged to shoot their truth, and to shoot down the deleterious broadcasts made by corporations, politicians and other vested interests. Why the name change?
This website has had several permutations, none of which sat very well with the work in progress. Then one night I thought about a name, an iconic identity, a persona, for what it was that needs to be said, and more important, to be done. Shoot is an epithet that represents either a word or an action. Conventionally the word means:

To hit, wound, or kill with a missile fired from a weapon.
To discharge (a weapon).

But it also applies to information:
To send forth suddenly, intensely, or swiftly
To utter (sounds or words) forcefully, rapidly, or suddenly

And then it applies generally to Life, what it is and what Life does, or can do:
The part of a vascular plant that is above ground, including the stem and leaves.
To begin to grow or produce; put forth.
The young growth arising from a germinating seed; a sprout.

The word even applies to movement:
To gush or spurt

Or pain:
To be felt moving or as if moving in the body.

Consumption:
To spend, use up, or waste (as in, they shot their savings)


Photography and filmmaking:
To cover (country) in hunting for game.
To record on film

Sports and Games:
a. To throw or propel (a ball, marble, or other projectile in a game) in a specific direction or toward the objective.
b. To accomplish (the objective) of a game involving a projectile; score (a point, basket, or goal).
c. To play (a game involving projectiles, such as golf or pool).
d. To attain (a given score) in golf.
e. To play (a game involving dice, especially craps).
f. To throw (the dice or a given score) in craps.

The movement of a star or meteor and also:
to direct swiftly and suddenly She shot them an angry glance.

The webzine espouses the most basic meaning of the word - to say or do something with emphasis and urgency. This is what is required in a world that has deluded itself through artifice, through manipulations and exaggerations.

It is no accident that current financial conditions were predicated by exactly this - manipulating and exaggerating financial devices (principally derivatives), by effectively moving further and further away from the reality of what money is, and how money is made. Truth is not the same as a game. In terms of truth there are neither winners nor losers. There is simply a march of self-evident reality, however it is adorned or derived on a piece of paper, by a camera, printed on paper.

Shoot is about grounding us, our future prospects, into the Earth once more.

During the growing crisis we face - Climate Change, the Credit Crunch, the Energy Crunch, Resource Wars, Pandemic Disease (all of which are in play) - we will need to shoot the truth. Not only editors and journalists and photographers but the ordinary consumers of it. Those ideas that turn out to be false manipulations must be shot down. Those with the truth must shoot it out there. That's us. We reconcile ourselves to a sustainable future with our world by making a commitment to ourselves and to each other to shoot straight - shoot the truth.
