Petrochemicals group Sasol (SOL) gave up 6.80 rand, or 2.37%, to 280.20 rand.
Gold miner AngloGold Ashanti (ANG) lost 29.29 rand, or 9.09%, to 293 rand, Gold Fields (GFI) was down 5.95 rand, or 5.70%, to 98.50 rand and Harmony (HAR) weakened 10.48 rand, or 10.33%, to 91.02 rand.
Caxton (CAT) was down 40 cents, or 3.33%, to 11.60 rand but Naspers (NPN) gained eight rand, or 4.85%, to 173 rand.
Among retailers, Pick n Pay (PIK) lost 40 cents, or 1.32%, to 30 rand, Spar (SPP) gave up 97 cents, or 1.84%, to 51.80 rand, JD Group (JDG) shed 1.65 rand, or 4.56%, to 34.50 rand, Foschini (FOS) lost 2.50 rand, or 5.26%, to 45 rand and Nu Clicks (NCL) was down 50 cents, or 3.29%, to 14.70 rand.
However, Mr Price (MPC) rose 44 cents, or 1.68%, to 26.69 rand.
