SHOOT: Experts are forecasting 65%. I have to say, any higher and I would call into question the validity of these results. You can't have a separate party forming out of the ruling party's dissidents (COPE) and have that have no impact on your results (especially compared to previous election figures - eg the ANC at around 69-70%).
Millions show support for ANC but two-thirds majority still in doubt The ANC is set to win the election with an overwhelming majority, but just falling short of the desired two-thirds majority. Predictions are that the ruling party will get up to 65percent of the votes. By yesterday evening the ruling party had won 66,70 percent of the 10million votes counted nationally – leading to ANC leaders at the IEC’s operation centre in Pretoria bringing out the champagne. The party with the second largest votes was the DA at 16,16percent, followed by Cope at 7,75 percent and the IFP in fourth position with 3,62percent.
However, CSIR statistician Zaid Kimmie – commissioned by the SABC to research the outcome of the election – has predicted that the ANC would drop its lead by 1percent just falling short of getting a two-thirds majority.
He said this would happen because many of the outstanding votes were in areas which were not necessarily ANC strongholds.
