What if they held a Soccer World Cup - and no one came?

No South Africans that is. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but a recession has happened. People are struggling to pay for food, for water and lights. And who do you think buy tickets to this sort of thing? The ordinary folk in suburbia. So sell all the tickets to overseas people, and then see if they decide to come here in boats. I believe there's a surfeit in oil tankers with nowhere to go, nothing to do. Why not planes? Well, I predict by this time next year oil prices, demand notwithstanding, will have rocketed upward again.
CAPE TOWN — While the government has welcomed the news that Soccer World Cup tickets were selling well, it has expressed concern that not enough has been done to market tickets to South Africans.
Briefing the media after yesterday’s cabinet meeting, chief government spokesman Themba Maseko said there was mounting concern over the fact that South Africans were not buying tickets. He said extra measures would have to be put in place with the local organising committee (LOC) to ensure that both this year’s Confederations Cup and next year’s World Cup finals were marketed to South Africans.
