CRICKET: SA in pieces at tea; Smith breaks hand

So Smith, who fumbled a crucial Ricky Ponting catch, may have - in that single boo boo - given the psychological edge to the Australians. Maybe some new blood will give fresh impetus to what is becoming embarassing and painful to watch!
AUSTRALIA is surging ahead of shattered South Africa on the third day in Durban, pushing to a 400 run lead at tea with nine wickets in hand.

Huges was 86no at tea and Ricky Ponting 78no as the score moved to 1-203 in the Australian second innings.
Simon Katich (30) was the only casualty of the first session, caught well by Paul Harris in gully from the bowling of Jacques Kallis but not before he and Phil Hughes had taken the score to 55.
The captain passed Steven Waugh to become the fourth highest run scorer in Test cricket during the innings and has an incredible 10,945 runs and counting.
He needs 130 more runs to pass Allan Border and then will be closing in on Brian lara 11, 953, while Sachin Tendulkar is on top and still going with 12,429.
The locals began the day on 7-138, but could add no more to the score and finished 214 runs in arrears.
Graeme Smith could not bat again after Mitchell Johnson broke his hand on the second day.
