Where Were You When You Realised The World Is Flat?

I was in Bristol, working at a call centre called ADS, when I realised the world was flat. It was the year 1998 and I worked with Australians in a British company, representing American and British companies such as Chrysler, the Mail on Sunday, the Australian Tourist Commission, a hearing aid company, the Office of Gas Supplies, the Financial Services Authority and many many others...
I began to realise that anyone, anywhere could represent a company that could pretend to be everything, everywhere. It also made me realise that when you call an airline, with a special problem, you're talking to someone pretty much like yourself, who, if you don't know how to solve your problem, they probably wouldn't either.
Globalisation has its limits. One of the highest values in today's business environment is genuine personal attention and response.  Posted by Picasa
