Swine flu toll is inaccurate

SHOOT: Currently the largest infection tolls are in South America; Brazil specifically. I don't believe that South America has worse figures than Africa, yet officially, most of Africa is clear. Swine flu is brewing in Africa, and here, anything can happen.

I READ that there are 3000 confirmed cases of swine flu in South Africa in “Swine flu toll now 6” (August 17). — Alison, by e-mail

This is inaccurate because medical authorities are not even testing most cases now.

They say there is a six-day backlog at labs, so results are coming back too late anyway.

My 11-year-old son has all the symptoms of swine flu, but as long as his chest stays clear, we are told not to worry.

So we have no idea how many cases of swine flu have hit South Africa.
