"We know that already a million white South Africans have left the country for various reasons. Many of these people’s reasons for leaving the country are very similar to what Mr Huntley has put to the tribunal (Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board)," he says.

Although Spies admits that persecution is a strong word, he says white South Africans are feeling a degree of alienation.

Spies says this sense of alienation is worsened by the manner in which people like Manyi are using a stick rather than a carrot to force companies to comply to Affirmative Action and BEE policies.
