5/15 Dodge This
There was a funny atmosphere at school. Kind've unstable, not in a bad way, just lighthearted, kind've humorous. The teacher that I thought had quit came back - she was 'just' in a car accident, hurt her shoulder but evidently not seriously.
But then Suji did quit today. Spent her last day manning, or womanning, reception. She says she is very glad to be leaving. I'll say.
A clever boy called Tommy brought two big hermit crabs to school. Their shells have been custom painted. He showed me how their pincers are strong enough to snap the nib off a pencil. I offer the tip of my pen and it held on very very tightly. When I was emailing he showed me that they like chocolate. Then he had the thing balancing on the edge of two sheets of paper, and it fell on the table with a crack. Poor creatures must be going nuts...
Some other students, two pretty girls called Julia and Jeeny, have started applying scented lipstick to their lips. I even tried some. Sticky, but smells nice.
Went earlier than usual to the pool, and found it even emptier than last time. Initially swam beside the Sungho Squad. Kept up and passed some of the girls, which I wasn;t sure I'd be able to. One girl, tall and cute and probably only 14, swam a mean backstroke...even faster than my crawl. Wow.
When Andrea joined me she asked, "How come there are almost no people in your lane." Think the reason is because they have to dodge me and my wake, and the legs crashing at the wall each time I tumble. I prodded an old, overweight woman, explaining that she mustn;t swim in the middle. She immediately evacuated the lane (and was replaced by an even larger woman in a yellow cap 1 minute later).
Swim:2.1kkm
Best 100m: 1:23
Time: 0:50
Weight: 84:35kg
Am happy to see my weight a bit lower. Maybe the scales at the two gyms are different. Will see next week.
Dr Yun gave me his business card, after I gave him mine. He speaks English really well, and I've met his kids. he's also a very strong swimmer and quite a good looking Korean dude. He said we must get together for some beers before I leave Korea. Sounds good.
Had a nice chat with the girls at reception before going to Pom for dinner with Andrea. Lovely grub.
Ran up Jeongbalsan and felt extrmely tired at the top:
Steep Uphill Run: 0:05
Distance: 750m
It's a beautiful, crisp night tonight. The moon is a bright silver, and one bright star twinkling right beside it.
Pullups: 10
This was quite impressive, as I did it with my bag still on, and after a 50 minute swim workout. Arms are strong. Will try to do this again next week and the week after.
After the pullups, which took almost more of a strain than the run, I walked down the hill on the other side, down the path between the Pine trees. A lovely walk and a peaceful end to a busy day.
