Mel Miller's Big Fat Comedy Show isn't kak

Audiences get the last laugh with local legend, Mel Miller- by Nick van der Leek

Last night - which was a THURSDAY [please note] - I went with some friends to watch Mel Miller. To be honest I couldn't quite place the name. It's probably just as well not to go with too many expectations, because you'll come away tickled an extra shade of pink.

Montecasino right now is brimming with fresh faced kids on holiday, so parking was hell.

The format for these Thursday comedy shows for October is simply a recording of Mel in action in Krugersdorp, performing in front of a local audience. It was great to see the audience in the cinema cheering, interacting and participating in the comedy.

Following hot on the heels of the last very successful one man show, Loyiso Gola for President in September, Podium…The Comedy Merchants and Nu Metro Cinemas bring you Mel Miller’s Big Fat Comedy Show each Thursday from 1st October through to Thursday, 29th October 2009.

You may remember Mel Miller from the old era's Biltong and Pot Roast. What's great about his Big Fat Comedy Show is you're going to flex those laughing muscles far more than you would at a Jim Carrey movie. Another bonus is that it's all lekka Seff Efrican humor. Some of it is kak, but all of it is local, and Mel's a lekker guy to get you to kick off your shoes and laugh it off.

From witty satire through to thought- provoking punch lines, Mel Miller is renowned for his enviable 46- year track record in the entertainment industry. Aptly described as a true living legend of South African Comedy, Mel Miller has successfully proven that his unpretentious and tell it like it is attitude has indeed attributed to sold out theatres, and hysterical audiences.

One of the important elements about this show is that this is the first time ever that Mel Miller has been filmed for a theatrical and later a DVD release, and Podium…The Comedy Merchants and Nu Metro are especially proud to be at the forefront of this initiative.

After the show I had coffee with an old school friend of mine and his wife, and I must say, the laughter at the start of the evening set the tone for a fun and interesting night.

The line-up for more forthcoming shows is as follows:

Thursday 5 November to Thursday 26 November – Trevor Noah
Thursday 3 December to Thursday 31 December 2009 – Riaad Moosa
Thursday 7 January to Thursday 28 January – Cedric the Entertainer
Thursday 4 February to Thursday 25 February – Kagiso Lediga
Thursday 4 March to Thursday 25 March – Steve Harvey
Thursday 1 April to Thursday 29 April – Katt Williams
