Went for a run just before midnight. Believe it or not, my watch registered, as a maximum temperature, even at this time of night, 32 C, with a minimum at 29 C.
Started off very easily, and then after about 3km just after running into a small coud of mosquitoes, a Korean guy with 'oolun' written in white on his blue vest, trotted by me.
It was at that moment that I really needed motivation, because this was the bit where I had to run beyond just the 1 lap. So I jumped on his tail. Since I had my keys on me, he could hear I was right behind him.
He could literally hear me breathing right down his neck.
I suddenly realised how down on myself I've been. I was running a lot quicker, feeling a lot lighter, and all it took, was a nudge at the right time.
We were running so close to each other that I could hear his breathing. His legs were trotting very quickly, and mine were just stretching into bigger steps. My breathing was deep and slow, deep and slow.
As we approached a point in the road where a lot of people exit, he seemed to accelerate just a little, and his breathing got heavier. I found myself drawing onto his shoulder, and prepared mentally to give the guy a clap and say thanks, because I was guessing he wouldn't be running a pace like this for 2 laps.
But he didn't turn off.
We passed the exit and now we were approaching a long, gradual, curving uphill. You know you can feel when you move into someone elses personal space. It's like there's a motion detector that suddenly goes "eeeEEEEE" as you get too close. That's where I was when I pulled up alongside him and just as the uphill started he pulled off with a small shout, "Fighting." I half turned and waved, saying, "Good." The hill sucked away any breath I might have wanted for more smalltalk. I think it was on this hill that my pulse went up to 173. That's just about maximum for me. At the top of the hill I turned and looked back. Just dark. Gradually eased down over the next kilometre.
Before the bridge, I turned off and did a few pullups.
Pullups: 9
Felt slightly stronger than the last time, but 10 still out of reach. Felt like I might blow my brains out with the effort. Was quite dizzy after the 9th one.
Once again I was digging sweat out of my eyes, but felt a lot cooler easing off the gas for the last kilometre home.
Glad I did this run. Would have felt pretty blue if I'd made a 3rd straight day without a decent workout.
