Jozi: The Good
Since moving to Johannesburg, these are some of the benefits:
1) Automatic garage door (remote controlled)
2) Indoor/secure parking at work
3) Work located adjacent to 2 major shopping malls with cinemas, restaurants, banks, coffee shops etc.
4) 2 free tickets every month to NuMetro theatres (work perk)
5) Free daily access to most newspapers - including The Star and Sunday Times
6) More overall facilities (in terms of shops)
7) Big screen TV's scattered about workplace
8) This one is subtle: a more accessible culture. Bloemfontein as a fairly exclusive (as in excluding) Afrikaans culture. Here the culture is different, diverse and also more vibey. It is also more inclusive, including racially inclusive.
9) And then, just from a personal perspective, work is an almost perfect fit, and it's hard to put a value on that.
10) The weather here is more amenable than Bloem - not as cold or as hot.
More good news is I found my driver's license card hiding in a pair of beige O'Neil trousers.
I don't remember ever putting them on, but somehow I think they did disappear in the washing for a few days, card and all. Anyway glad that is resolved.
