Went to a Alpha Course yesterday. Interesting discussion on miracles.
The argument has been made often that 'something is missing' in our lives. We say that we are lacking meaning and purpose in our lives, and that God is the only one who can put it there. I think that's a lazy approach. If you are missing meaning or purpose in your life, get up, and go and find meaning and purpose. The fact that you feel there is a deficiency means you must answer that call.
Going to church or giving God the resposibility to fulfill all your inner needs for meaning or purpose turns into a hollow but self fulfilling solution which doesn't necessarily achieve anything.
Meaning and purpose comes from connecting ourselves to others, and to the world at large. To the extent that we do this, we'll find meaning, and the degree to which we choose to do this, is our self defined and determined purpose.
