Zimbabwe’s death toll from a devastating cholera outbreak has surpassed the 2,000 mark as aid continues to pour into the economically hard-hit southern African country, APA learnt here on Tuesday.
Figures jointly released by the ministry of health and the World Health Organisation showed that 2,024 people have died from cholera since the outbreak was first detected in August 2008.

The number of the dead was 1,999 on Sunday, according to the statistics. The figures also show that there is a 172 percent rise in new reported cases, with 1,472 new infections on Monday compared to just 541 cases on Sunday.

Some 117 people died from the disease on Monday compared to just 25 the previous day.

Mozambique, which is also fighting a cholera epidemic of its own that has claimed more than 20 people, donated three containers of drugs and other medical supplies on Monday.
