The stated goal for this website in 2008 was to reach 100 000 page impressions by year end. NVDL is well on course to achieve this goal.
The great enabler for blogs in South Africa is the South African aggregator Amatomu, and indeed, Amatomu is ranked second for referral sites, above google.images.com and under blogger.com. This site currently appears 27th on Amatomu's News and Politics Blogs for South Africa, although strictly speaking, this is neither a news nor a politics blog, but a mixture of social commentary, photography, and personal commentary. Topics covered include finance, sport, energy issues, the environment, beauty and social and political concerns in South Africa in particular.
Blogs like this one are simply one way to put up posters all over the internet as a way to bring local sentiments and news to their own customised auidences. News of community interest is different for different audiences, and some would otherwise not know where to find them. Does someone in Johannesburg have the faintest idea that there is a good newspaper in Hamilton, Canada called The Spectator? Will a businessman in Cape Town ever get to read Sarah McDonald in the National Business Review (a New Zealand-based periodical)?
For those who visit here regularly, thanks for coming!-)
