Miley Cyrus Vanity Vair Pic: Hype or Hubris
The celebrity media machine is interesting. Miley Cyrus appearing in Vanity Fair, appropriately or not has generated a wave of publicity. It may not be good for Disney, but it is very good for Cyrus. Did you know who Miley Cyrus was before the spectacle in Vanity Fair magazine?
I am increasingly of the opinion that if you want to punish someone or something in this world for something inappropriate or unacceptable, the best strategy is to ignore it. Because focussing on someone or something draws traffic to it, giving it a higher value. I know, it doesn't make much sense, but that's the Media Machine for you.
A fifteen year old exposing her back. Is that something to get hysterical about? There's an afrikaans word: preeds. It means to be a prude,or a purist. If we expect angelic behaviour out of our children, fine, but are we setting that example in the first place, or are we transferring our own pornographised angst? Why are moms not hollering hysterically every time we see Madonna (a mother) in a music video? Get real.

Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus apologises for Vanity Fair shoot
By Catherine Elsworth in Los Angeles
Miley Cyrus, the 15-year-old star of Disney's billion-dollar Hannah Montana franchise, has apologised to her young fans for a photoshoot in which she appears partially clothed.
The singer and actress issued a statement saying she was "embarrassed" by the pictures taken by Annie Leibovitz, the celebrity photographer.
Cyrus appears apparently topless with a satin sheet draped around her in the photographs, which will appear in the June issue of Vanity Fair.

But they have provoked parental outrage and also speculation about potential damage to the wholesome family image of the lucrative Disney franchise.
Cyrus, who is on course to be worth a billion dollars by the time she turns 18, said: "I took part in a photoshoot that was supposed to be 'artistic'. Now, seeing the photographs, I feel so embarrassed.
"I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologise to my fans who I care so deeply about."
The Disney Channel criticised Vanity Fair, claiming it had "deliberately manipulated a 15-year-old".
But the magazine defended the pictures. "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day," it said.
"Everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley." The pictures will accompany an interview with the teenager and her father, the country singer Billy Ray Cyrus who appears with her on the show.
