This snowy white sunny day just reminds me of holidays in South Africa when the sea has been rough, and the day warm with memory.
This is a picture of Waimea Bay, in Hawaii, but it reminds me a bit of the Wild Coast, near Kob Inn.
At the moment there is a Quiksilver competition in Waimea Bay, the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational. The event is named after a famous big wave rider and lifeguard who died when he volunteered to leave an overturned ship where he was serving as a crewman. He insisted on paddling on his surfboard to find help more than 12 miles away. He was never seen again. Today there are bumpers stickers saying: Eddie Would Go.
If you're in a dangerous situation, like you want to traverse a technically difficult gorge, or your school is pissing on you, or you're considering cycling from Strand to Kleinmond you can just say to yourself: Eddie would go.
