Johannesburg, June 11th 2010: - Thousands of soccer fans in South Africa will be able to get a taste of the FIFA World Cup™ action this year when Nu Metro Cinemas screen select 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ matches LIVE in 3-D at fourteen sites around the country.
Nu Metro Cinemas announced today that it has signed a licence agreement with FIFA for the 3D Public Exhibition Rights for live transmissions of the 2010 FIFA World CupTM in South Africa in association with Supersport and DSTV.
“This will be a chance for the public to replicate the experience of actually being in one of the stadia,” says Mark Harris, Content Executive for Nu Metro Cinemas. “These matches will be supplied in the immersive 3D technology made popular by the most successful movie of all time, Avatar, late last year. As Africa’s leading 3-D cinema chain, currently with twenty-five dedicated screens around the country and boasting the world’s largest RealD 3-D screen at Nu Metro Montecasino in Johannesburg, we are absolutely thrilled and delighted to be part of the world’s biggest sporting event with this ground breaking technology.”
Participating cinemas include Emperor’s Palace, Montecasino, Clearwater Mall, The Glen, Bedford Centre, Hyde Park, Menlyn Park, Pavilion, Galleria, V&A Waterfront, Canal Walk, Riverside, Loch Logan and Walmer Park.
