NVDL hits 101234 - some things change, some things don't change

Just under a year ago this website hits totalled just 45 000 (after 3 years in service). That's an average of 15 000 hits a year. In the last 12 months, NVDL has attracted 55 000 hits, thanks in part to shareware, aggregaters and other new additions. On Amatomu today NVDL is ranked as the 41st most popular blog in South Africa overall, and in the News and Politics category NVDL is ranked 8th, one spot after Urban Sprout.

It's no secret that the last 5000 hits were largely due to Gustav-related traffic. That is the nature of a blog. Traffic spikes, then flattens. By the way, catastrophe is the bread and butter for blogs. Because no one is in a dangerous area, the only people to shine a light in what would otherwise be a media blackout are the bloggers. Which raises the question: where are Zimbabwe's bloggers?

My average traffic flows have gotten slightly better; I get around 200 hits a day. But I have been disappointed to see that day in and day out, the most popular pages by far have been the same, usually:
1) Italian Chandelier
2) Rotten Neighbours
3) Sebastian Chaval

Number 1 is a sex position. This is a disappointing result.
This website does have a few loyal readers. But I would be fooling myself if I thought the effort put into it was - shall we say, providing a good return on investment.

While I will continue to update this site, I am going to allow a few days to roll by with no updates. I'm going to be concentrating for the next year on exercise. This blog may have changed to some extent over the last12 months. My weight hasn't - well I have lost and gained, and that I believe to be a more worthy goal than my hit counter measuring 200 or 2000 or 20 000. Thanks guys for visiting. I will continue to put up what I believe is meaningful information, but until I'm convinced that the average audience is actually looking for something of value, looking to learn something, perhaps to grow in some way, I am going to spend less time in this space.
