NVDL: These are pretty well articulated and well worth reading. Not sure if I agree that Mbeki achieved anything noteworthy with Mugabe and Tsvangirai (since Mugabe and Mbeki were pals all along, and Mugabe is more in the picture, arguably than he should be). And whatever has been achieved is still a bicker-in-progress'. That's my only gribe though. All Hartley's other comments are very well made. Hear hear.
Another question we should be asking is this: 'should Mbeki have gone so soon?'. I think all things being equal the answer would be yes. But the wider context is concerning. The fact that the incumbent (with a Std 3 on his CV) is eager to march into the Presidency unopposed. And then cabinet ministers such as Trevor Manuel fleeing their office. Manuel's exodus alone makes me quiver.
