NVDL: When Katrina hit New Orleans 3 years ago, there were a number of stories saying first that global warming wasn't the culprit, and then some saying that it was. So far (this year) we're getting a mixed message. It COULD be responsible. Ya think?
Our species, Homo Consumiens, in its infinite wisdom, looks at ice caps melting, some of the worst weather it has experienced in its own lifetime (we're talking climate records all around the world). Then you get aberrations updating almost every year, aberrations like Dolly (who lasted 3 weeks, another record), and two Hurricanes virtually colliding with each other (right, technically Hanna isn't quite there yet)...and scientists struggle to see a connection.
Let me put it this way. If you put a pot on a stove, and turn the stove on and the water starts to boil, I believe the reason for this COULD have something to do with the stove. Look, I'm no scientist, but I THINK that glowing coil under the pot, and the water boiling directly above that glowing coil (and the coil is hot) COULD have some relationship. But I'm Homo Consumer, so I guess I'll wait until it is a foregone conclusion before drawing any inferences, coming to any conclusions.
Besides, the media will do that (my thinking) for me anyway. Ye see, all I can do as a consumer is react to the word SALE. I'm incapable of intelligent thought or finding insights otherwise. Sorry.
