Very Funny

If unhappiness is funny, then something VERY funny happened immediately after I arrived home last night. I was furiously unpacking my car for the umteenth time (books, bicycle, new computer, files, dusty manuscripts (my small library of unpublished, unheralded genius), and trying to get it done so I could eat dinner and settle down to relax...maybe watch Bad Boys.

See I drove from BFN to JHB without a single stop (barring the tollgates).

So I'm unpacking my computer, you know the large tower bit, and the guy has been really considerate to wrap the sides in styrofoam cushioning. Unfortunately in my zeal, as I'm about to fully extract the tower from its cardboard cage I think - what if the styrofoam gives way - and then it does. The whole thing came down in a sickening crunch, with pieces of plastic shooting all over the place, and the THUNK noise of broken merchanise echoeing for a few horrible moments.

See, this was part of my upgrading my computer. R6000 less the trade in value of the original. The outer casing was fairly badly smashed up. Fortunately the innards still functioned, although the guy who put it together didn’t transfer all the data. For example the most important data – go figure – my Heart Rate Monitor files over 2 years, were gone, including the program that runs them. Thanks guy.

Nah, things could have been plenty worse - the innards could have been totally FUBAR. A STOOPID slap on my own forehead, I think, is called for here.

Sorry to hear about your encounter with Mr. Gravity…(or is it Mrs.?)

He visited me too: after Saturday’s race and Sunday’s practice with Andre and the bunch, he clutched my legs as if he got nothing else to do on a Sunday afternoon.

And…if happiness is gloomy, I hope you will have a miserable week.

Ag thanks. Did you fall or were your legs just tired? I might have joined you except I only brought my Zipp wheels (they are not clincher rims so a puncture would be very expensive, like R200).

Did I call you Marelize?

Legs were just tired.

And yes, you did call me Marelize.

Jammer Marizna. My legs were also helluva tired - in fact all of me was.

Gaan jy die hele afstand doen Sondag?

It's all right:-)

I entered for the 107km race - I'm not really fit enough, but I'm going to try my best. I'm more worried about Sunday the 18th...

Ja, dit gaan seer wees. Waar gaan jy bly as jy af kom. As jy naby is kan ons dalk 'n pasta saam gaan vlek.
I think the OFM will help you in the process of getting ready for the 94.7, at least in terms of the endurance involved.

Ek dog jy ken die groot stad al soos die palm van jou hand...

I don't know the city at all, but where in Jo-burg do you live?

This afternoon I cycled a nice 40km, but I don't get my average speed more than 25km/h - LOL. I hope there's something wrong with my speedometer...

Nick said...

at least you cycled. I got up at 4:20am but was so whacked, went to bed again. have been slaving after my home computer since i upgraded it. 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. so only went to bed last night at 1am. sal seker vrydag oggend weer gaan ry.

nee ek ken hierdie stad glad nie goed nie. net my zone.

What is your opinion on carbo-loading. Some people tell me it's effective, some say they don't believe in carbo-loading...

Wanneer kom jy vir die OFM registrasie?

Nick said...

Heelwaarskynlik tussen 2 en 5nm Saterdag. En jy?

Carbo loading?

Luister hoekom email jy my nie hier nie:
