Protect Yourself

That's the catchphrase along with 'smooth and slow'.
Protect yourself from the sun.
Protect yourself from running out of energy with plenty of GU, electrolytes, water...
Protect yourself on the uphills, go slow, cruise on the flats and downs.
Hold back.

I cycled 1 and a half hours today and my Polar said it went up to 35 degrees. Was pretty tired from just that cycle, heart rate went up to 168 and averaged over 140 (averaged speed 27.9km/h)
The good thing about the ride is it paints a clear picture of the day, and how conservative I need to be.

I've just finished collecting my registration package, and bought an Ironman towel and shirt, plus some sunblock for extra protection.

Yesterday I took my bike in, left my cellphone on the taxi and later hurried back to find it squashed, smashed and crushed by oncoming traffic, but remarkably still working. Go Nokia. I took it in to replace the LCD so now it looks pretty much the way it did with a few extra scratches.

Wanted to fly to Bloem but have just gotten two quotes, and if i fly from there to J'burg it will be an additional R2500 - R3000. Not sure if I can justify that kind of expense, even though I'd really like to visit Bloem one last time. Also need to pick up my notebook there.

Need to get some sleep and rest this afternoon. The heat is leaving me feeling tired.
