Block the Sun

It is extremely hot here, even in the hotel room with the fan on it is hot and stuffy. The evenings are quite fresh though, so maybe I should sit out of the run for the afternoon and then finish it after sunset!

I am feeling a bit glum today. Woke up with a minor hangover after going with Candice and her boyfriend to various places in PE. The town was quite dead, although one or two places were rocking. Drank quite a bit more than I meant to but at least it sent me off to dreamland virtually immediately. Just could not keep my eyes open to watch TV even though Star Trek Nemesis was on.

This morning I went to the swimming pool across the road from the hotel, went down the slides and checked out the talent. Was one nice girl wearing a white bikini, but on the far side of the pool. Met a lifeguard there whose brother was on the front page of THE HERALD yesterday. They are going to be in charge of safety during the swim part of the Ironman.

Went to watch the Dolphins at 15:00 and chatted to the lady who looks after the penguins. Was quite interesting. Pity I didn't have my camera with me. Am having trouble finding computers that have CDrom drives, and even when they do the system can take half an hour to load a single post. That's crap.
Am feeling more glum because no one has come down to PE to support me, and being here with all the sun, surf and organisation would be more fun if I could share it with someone.
I will go and watch a movie now (Lemony Snicket) and then head to the Pasta Party. I bought an extra ticket but if I notice someone needs it for a family member or something I'm just going to give it away.

I'm quite tempted to go to the 46664 Aids Concert in George tomorrow. Hire a car and drive back towards the end of it. Thing is none of the bands are really amazing. Annie Lennox and Johnny Clegg and one or two others...
But I will probably just go for a full body massage, swim in the sea and watch Million Dollar Baby again, for some last minute inspiration.

Jean and another guy should be here, so will call them at some point and maybe join them for something.
I want to have an easy night tonight. The sleep you get the night before the night before the race is the most important, so I want to make sure I am fully rested and all the energy mixtures are packed and mixed and ready.

Also have thought of starting up a bike (and maybe rollerblade) rental business, just for fun, on the promenade here. Called Hannes to ask for a quote for a few bicycles.

My body isn't feeling as fresh as I'd like, but I am young, and fairly healthy and I am betting that is enough. Even more, I think my mind will be strong enough to drive me on and on until I get to the little white line.
The biggest factor on race day, after the agony in my legs, I think will be the sun. It has been so hot that I haven't been wanting to even walk outside. The heat is one thing, getting sunburnt is another. You can wear a powerful sunblock, but the fact is you are still exposing a heck of a lot of skin to the sun for as much as 12 hours. Will try to protect myself as far as possible.

Slow and smooth.
