The SABC is to pay its former group CEO Dali Mpofu R11-million to walk away from his job, SABC radio reported on Friday.
"As part of the agreement, Mpofu agreed to withdraw all action against the SABC. The announcement was made by board chair Irene Charnley in Johannesburg," the report said.
Mpofu was for months embroiled in a legal tussle with his former employer.
In June, the High Court in Johannesburg dismissed with costs the SABC's appeal against reinstating its suspended chief executive.
The judge overseeing the case ruled that then SABC board chairperson Khanyi Mkhonza was caught up in the bitter rivalry between Mpofu and Snuki Zikalala, whose contract as head of news and current affairs ended in April.
Mpofu's legal woes started when he suspended Zikalala, accusing him of leaking SABC documents to other media houses.
Mpofu then instituted legal action against the broadcaster in a fight for his job. - Sapa |
