Jack Black: 'The Bible was written by an idiot."

SHOOT: Black makes a credible point, namely that whoever wrote the bible said that God invented night and day, made the earth, and sort of put the heavens around it. Of course, night and day is a consequence of the earth turning, something they didn't know until a few hundred years ago. And nowhere in the bible, which you'd think is God's handbook to Earth, and ought to be a guidebook to the heavens, does it say that he made the earth round, that he turned it, that he gave it a wobble to bring about seasons, and a moon to influence the tide. Just that he flicked a switch and waved a magic wand. Written by God? No. Written by man? Yes. A book worth dismissing? No, it's valuable, but we shouldn't be stupid about taking what was written thousands of years ago as the final word over what we know to be true today. Example: The Earth wasn't created 7000 years ago just because the bible tells me so.
