Corne Krige's brother-in-law drove over and killed both his children in a freak accident

"It seems that one of the children opened a car door."

SHOOT: This is such a tragedy. The fact that both children fell out makes it even worse. To lose two children unnecessarily like that. Folks, make sure when you're driving with children that the doors are always locked.

Former Springbok captain Corne Krige's brother-in-law drove over and killed both his children in a freak accident, Beeld newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The children, Phillip, one, and Kirsten, four, were driving with their father, Jan-Hendrik, on their farm, Elandsfontein in Victoria-West in the Western Cape when the accident happened on Monday afternoon.

"They were driving on a gravel road on the farm and there was a turn to the left. It seems that one of the children opened a car door," said police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Plaatjie.

Both children fell out of the four-wheel drive vehicle and landed underneath the car.
They were the children of Krige's wife's sister.
