A few days ago I posted my concerns about this troubling trend on this blog, and some idiot criticised me for mis-stating the numbers. There is something bloody wrong with you if you feel you can nitpick where 100 or 101 children died, that you can justify the killing of civilians when they're not children in this case, or because they were human shields in that case, or the helicopter pilot mistook a UN insignia on a truck for a HAMAS logo.
There's something very troubling when every time people are killed there is a statement or an excuse. It really mirrors a broader trend in the world, which is a refusal to take responsibility for the things we do. People may not - in the scheme of things - hold one another appropriaptely accountable. But Life does.
At this rate, Israel is going to reap the whirlwind. And the US too, which so far has been quietly supportive of Israel, abstaining even from what turned out to be a unanimous Security Council vote. It shows you that the current malaise we are in economically, politically, socially, environmentally we thoroughly deserve. It's the price paid for being self-indulgent clowns.
Holmes and John Ging, head of Gaza operations for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, both expressed anger and regret at their decision Thursday to temporarily suspend aid shipments in the Gaza Strip because it was too risky for their aid workers.
UNITED NATIONS – Palestinian children are dying at a heavy rate in the Israeli-Hamas fighting — about one of every three persons killed, according to Gaza statistics.
As of Thursday, 257 children were among the approximately 760 reported dead in Gaza. There were another 1,080 children among the 3,100 injured in the conflict, according to statistics from Gaza's health ministry.
"It's particularly distressing and horrifying that the current casualties seem to be increasingly civilian casualties, with an increasing incidence of whole families being buried in houses which have been hit," Holmes said.
