I had a feeling this was happening: People faking hijackings and housebreakings to claim money from insurance companies

People are growing increasingly desperate, and they will be. Right now the JSE is down another 1.6% (heading towards 27 000). About 2 months ago the JSE was breaking records, at around 32 000. Oil is at $145 despite all the fingerpointing and footstomping. I had a conversation with someone who is feeling completely run down, someone else says she has no money to drive to meet me for coffee. The best we can do is steel ourselves mentally for what is inevitably heading our way. All that will remain in the coming dystopia is the relationships we have with each other.

Cash-strapped citizens fake break-ins

By Bronwyn Gerresten

Many South Africans are reporting false hijackings, housebreakings and other theft claims in order to get rid of their monthly repayments and be paid out by insurance companies.

Insurance investigators report that there has been an increase in the number of people staging housebreakings to make money from insurance policies or claiming their vehicles were hijacked or stolen because they could no longer afford them.
