It's 6 degrees outside. Brrrrr.
Slept a bit better today. Could have done with 2-3 hours more sleep, but the phone rang...
I think I need to unplug it before I go to bed. Anyway in this case it was good that I answered it, because it was Pete asking about the ski trip. There's an Ilsan Triathlon Club party on Thursday night, and if he goes it may be tough waking up the next morning at 5am. I wonder why I haven't been invited. I'd really like to be invited so that I can add it to my growing list of turned down invitations.
The ski trip is going to be such a rush...I mean rushing there, skiing, and then hurrying back to do the presentation at school for one hour. What a waste! This means we have to head off at 5am for a few hours skiing. It's doable, but if Pete's had a big night, and the Soju has flowed, it's going to be off to a headachy start. I'm just not keen on rushing there and worrying about getting back in time. The highways here are not plain sailing, and if we get stuck in a traffic jam my ass will be toast at school.
I also read some information about Billy Meier. Grrrrr. I've posted some of his 'Best UFO' pictures in other parts of my blog. It turns out to be an elabroate hoax. He has UFO models that he built and used, and the pictures he drew of 'aviators' he met he got from a Sears catalogue (all these found in his apartment). He is still making money off his books and prints from his pictures. On his website he says many people are trying their best to prove he is a fraud. A neat little trick. I must say I thought those bearded images he sketched of the Plejaren, and then the fact that he has this long ridiculous beard, just seemed really a bit ridiculous. Aliens with beards is a bit of a stretch. What an asshole. It's guys like Meier that make any scientific study on the subject more complicated, and one cannot help but become more cynical about the subject.
Wow, it's a gray day outside. Yucky.
I have sourced some interesting information about more unexplained phenomena in Korea, including quite a few pictures. The quality is not that great, but several are prints taken from video, tv and several appear in newspapers. I'm doing UFO's with my adult class, so it makes sense to start at home and take it from there. I printed out a lot of stuff I can use as handouts for the rest of the week.
I think instead of covering all the detail I'd like to talk about the principles involved:
Why should we care about UFO's?
So what?
What does our interest in UFO's or aliens say about ourselves?
What can we say about people who focus on UFO's and aliens when here on Earth there are fairly serious things going on, like war, and disease, hunger and environmental degradation?
What do we learn from taking an interest in Extra-Terrestrial life?
These should open some interesting areas for discussion and debate, instead of just reading through all the material. I think I'll give out the material, and we'll cover 5-10% in class and the rest can be read at home at their own pace, and at their leisure.
Meanwhile I have to get outside at some point and go swimming. And fetch my labwork from the doctor. Brrrrr.
