Right foot hurt today. Almost had to limp when crossing the road from the pool. Put some ice in a plastic bag, and stuffed it into my sock. Felt a little better afterwards. I need to treat this injury properly in South Africa. Regular icepacks, stretching, and possibly creams and acupuncture. Tendons don't repair easily, or for that matter, quickly.
The pain in my foot sends a very clear signal: That the Ironman is hanging by a thread in some ways. My response is that I will do what I can do, and not focus on what I can't. I can still swim, and go to gym, and once in South Africa, cycle. I can also sideline the running pretty much altogether, and then survive the marathon in the actual race. I've run a amrathon before on very little training, and it's not impossible.
It's important to identify different levels of success now. If the injury persists, that does not mean the endeavour becomes a failure, that's not the end. I have to see what I can learn from this, what I can do. How can I use this to improve my situation now.
All I can do is do what I can to fend off the niggles and pain, to conintue to strengthen the leg, and maybe find out on the net more about treatment, and how long this sort of injury persists.
The sad thing is that at present I seem not to be able to train fullout, 100%. The opportunity may present itself in time. Perhaps I will have to make another attempt at the Korea Ironman. There is a reason behind all things.
Time will tell.
