Springbok = Swastika

I remember during World War II that hundreds of soccer players had swastikas tattoed on their foreheads. During Sharpeville the police ran around in Springbok rugby shirts and rugby socks. Yes, I see a direct correlation there. They carried around bombs in the shape of rugby balls too didn't they?

This is a great conversation to be having now. I am sure we can improve sport in this country by logo swopping. That should do it.

Those pushing for the Bok emblem to go included Dr Asad Bhorat of the Soweto Rugby Club, who said it was akin to the national German squad wearing a swastika.

De Villiers also sidestepped a question as to whether the morale of his squad would be affected.

Nor did he consider that he might well be the country's "last Bok rugby coach, but its first Protea coach".

SA rugby boss Oregan Hoskins said: "We have noted the concerns and opinions expressed by some delegates at the National Sports Indaba in Durban, but we now believe it is the time to engage all stakeholders as the ANC has said."
