1.8 billion obese in the world (almost 1 in 3 people)

It's interesting that they say here that pills used to combat obesity have severe side effects. Think about it. You take pills to help your body dispose of years and years of bad habits - bad eating, bad living, lazy thinking. You must know what kind of pill you have to injest to make a dent in all that human whale blubber. Basically you're better off swallowing a hand grenade - that's if you want decent results.

Overeating makes the brain go haywire, prompting a cascade of damage that may cause diabetes, heart disease and other ills, U.S. researchers reported on Thursday.

Obesity is a growing global problem, with 1.8 billion people estimated to be overweight or obese in 2007. Drugs marketed so far to fight obesity have only limited success and, often, severe side-effects.
