Bride butchered on honeymoon

THE devastated husband of murdered bride Anni Dewani last night told how a killer put a gun to his head — but vowed neither of them would be hurt.

Millionaire Brit Shrien Dewani, 31, said they were confronted by two attackers, adding: "The men kept saying, 'We are not going to hurt you. We just want the car'. That was a lie."
He and Anni then begged their abductors to dump them together. But Shrien ended up being pushed out of the VW Sharan after about 20 minutes.
The men, who had earlier dumped the honeymoon couple's chauffeur after hijacking the vehicle in a South African township, then sped off with Anni, 28.

She was found dead in the vehicle 15 miles further on. A shot to the neck had severed an artery. Anni is also believed to have been sexually assaulted.
Shrien said: "I don't want to go into detail about what happened during the attack, because I will probably start crying. But they were so cold. They put a gun in my ear and pulled back the trigger — it really was the stuff of movies.

"Most of the conversation was us pleading to be dumped together. I held on to Anni as I said to them 'Look, if you're not going to hurt her, let us go'.
Shrien, from Westbury-on-Trym, near Bristol, said they had decided to venture outside the tourist areas at the suggestion of Anni.
He added: "Anni grew up in Sweden, and she felt as if the area around the hotel was like at home, so clean and safe, and maybe a bit sterile. She had never been to Africa before, so she suggested that we should have a look at the 'real Africa'."

The couple are thought to have been heading for a township restaurant recommended by telly chef Jamie Oliver when they were abducted.
Mzoli's barbecue diner in shanty area Guguletu, gives visitors an "authentic taste of township life" and was visited by the star cook last year. He featured it in his Jamie magazine, describing the food as "heaven" and "totally sexy".

The restaurant also has a bar and the couple may have been looking for it in search of some colourful local nightlife.

But while Guguletu is relatively safe during the week in daylight, it is a no-go area on Saturday night.
Student Ziyanda Rongo, 20, saw cops arrive to check the vehicle after it had been abandoned.
She said: "When they opened the door there was so much blood it flooded out, it made them jump back."  Shrien, who runs the PSP chain of care homes owned by his family, wed Anni in Mumbai, India, two weeks ago.
Detectives last night said they knew the killers and expect to make arrests soon.
