0.35 Another Day At The Office

I've finished reading Harry Potter by the way. If you don't want to know what happens, don't read to the end of this paragraph: Snape kills Dumbledore. Harry also falls for Ginny, but just like Spiderman, breaks up because 'heroes must stay single or risk putting their loved ones in danger'.

I decided to take some pictures again of the kids stuffing their faces in class. All these pictures were taken in one day. One particular kid's hands were so full of chip powder that he was attempting to write dictation with his left hand (meaning he wasn't writing at all). Does eating in class have an impact on the students performance and on their education - big time.

1) Eating in class prevents class participation
2) It causes both a lack of focus and distracts other students too
3) Probably least important, but it's annoying for the teacher, especially one who is aware (and cares about) points 1 and 2.

Beyond these issues, it's an extremely bad habit to allow to take root in a classroom. Grownups and educators should be encouraging children to eat proper food, and in the classroom they come in with icecream and junk, which sets the other children off on the same thing. Is it a coincidence that at least half the children with food in their mouthes are flabby and overweight, and they're not even teenagers yet.

I got a little done today...finished Harry off early this morning, got in a good breakfast. Took no Tylenols today and hardly coughed. After that I did some photo-reporting in the classroom. You'd think the director would object to me snapping shots of kids eating (when I should be teaching) but he's too busy...er...feeding his fish.
After school I went to a lovely dinner at Allalie - chicken (grilled to perfection), mash, and yummy salad. The wine and the banter just got me into a really happy buzz.
Haven't felt that in a while. Think I am gearing up for a lot more of that.

I also sent out a group email to Pete, Rowan, Jim, David, Corneli, Allalie, Soon Young, Min Jung, Wendi and some other people. We're going to go to Outback and eat some chocolate brownies and maybe go somewhere afterwards. My evening is going to depend a lot on how much I get done in the week, and how organised I am by then. I feel like there are a lot of people to email, lots of things to pack and arrange, and believe it or not, I also feel like there are a few important 'articles' I want to write for my blog.

Louise has emailed me back after I sent her some business-related material, well business concepts, and she's recommended I pass it on to Mark but as long as I have my research to back myself up. Will have to get a file and number crunch for a week or two before I take that step.
Alna at Exposure (an advertising agency) has also asked me to have coffee with her once I get back (she offered me a job just before I left).
And another guy, who is the editor of a magazine, has asked me when I can get involved there, so things seem set up quite nicely. Would it be too much to ask for a short holiday first?
