Letter to a Champion

Howzit ***
Well done on winning the big bucks. Time to buy a house right?

I watched the Oscars recently and as usual was quite inspired to be creative. I actually have been writing for a few years, and have actually come up with a few manuscripts, but have not published anything significant. Like you, I believe I have potential!

I have started something which I call The Swimmers. It is only a day old and am still developing/creating it. I basically am writing a book which I'd like to see become a movie which will put swimming on the map. There was a movie called Swimming Pool that was quite arty. I mean a movie that shows the art and beauty in the pool, the hardcore-ness of the training and racing, the mindrot of the long distance swimmer, and also the serenity of a pool with no one in it but you, breaking its smooth surface.
I have my own experience to draw from. It may be interesting if you can share some of yours.

I think it is the mark of a champion to lose, and struggle, and then come back after all that to win. I had some struggles too - with holes in my ear drum, and swimming with tick bite fever.

You must decide if you want to chat about it. I am not sure exactly what I am asking you. I mean, I am not asking for exclusive rights to your story (can't afford it!) but I am asking for some personal insights. Also, I don't see it being a story about you, although possibly it could be. I basically see three characters. One who becomes quite a good swimmer and then his life fades and he ends up working at the swimming pool of his youth.
Another whose career is never stellar, but who consistently swims and this brings consistency and stability to an otherwise erratic emotional situation (divorce, family and financial instability), swimming provides the anchor, the discipline to move through this.
And the third, personified by you, who dreams, and dares, and wins.

Have a look at what I have written on:

Cheers
Nick
