SHOOT: Life expectancy is 53 years?
Migration is an important demographic process in shaping the age structure and distribution of the provincial populations, Stats SA noted.
For the period 2006?2011 it is estimated that approximately 390 000 people will migrate from the Eastern Cape. Limpopo is estimated to experience a net outmigration of nearly 200 000 people.
During the same period, Gauteng and Western Cape are estimated to experience a net inflow of migrants of approximately 450 000 and 140 000 respectively.
Other information contained in the release shows that life expectancy at birth is estimated at 53.5 years for males and 57.2 years for females.
The infant mortality rate is estimated at 45.7 per 1 000 live births.
The estimated overall HIV prevalence rate is approximately 10.6% and the total number of people living with HIV is estimated at approximately 5.21 million.
The total number of new HIV infections for 2009 is estimated at 413 000. Of these, an estimated 59 000 will be among children.
