I prepared for a tough race on Saturday, well it turned out to be very tough. Compared to the previous outing, where I averaged 154, this time I averaged 161bpm.
But at the Glen bridge I heard psssss and it turned out to be me (I first thought the guy just ahead of me was the unlucky one).
Meanwhile, I cruised along for at least another 5km, feeling a slight crunch occasionally. Heart rate shot up to 171 (think the flat tyre made riding a bit tougher too), so was at my limit with Sunnyhill in sight, and a downhill to recover on. That's when I felt the teeth of the road through my bike saddle. Noooooooo.
So the plug was pulled at:
Distance: 54km
Average speed: 34.4km/h (into a headwind)
HR average: 161 (171 max).
I went out this morning, got mixed messages from the cyclists I was supposed to meet, and ended up shadowing them most of the way (either 2km ahead of them, or 2km behind them - crazy).
Did 75km today. Quite enjoyed it except my Shimano wheel's spoke snapped, so the wheel wobbled a bit.
Very hot once again.
